Your friends are having fun in school. They attend the wildest of parties and get invitations from cool guys to the most romantic of getaways. And none of them, not even one, has mentioned dignity, self-esteem, or pride.

Yes, they have not. And there is no hope they will.

Why?

Well, they are teens like you, aren't they? Your friend is an amateur teen just like you. And like you, she thinks all that glitters is gold.

But hey, sit up and listen.

When a boy and a girl go to a private secluded location for a romantic getaway, what really happens is that they get into each other. They talk, they dance, they sing and . . . they make love.

A romantic getaway is romantic. Romance eventually leads to premarital sex.

Even if you don't get pregnant, your pride will be hurt when your cherished boyfriend moves along to another girl.

Why am I so sure he may eventually move along to another girl.

Well, most college relationships never graduate into marriage. Most times it's just a fling. And you will be hurt deeply when he tells you that.

And if you do get pregnant in the euphoria of falling in love, you're in for a rude shock.

My advice?

Save sex for later. Keep romance in the cooler until you're old enough and mature enough to handle a love relationship with a mature man who will love you forever.

Sure, the lure of teen romance is almost irresistible. Yes, temptations are everywhere.

But you can do this. You can keep your virginity until marriage.

Do this for yourself and for your parents.

So, when these flirty guys come along to take advantage of you because you look like an amateur teen, show them you've come of age.

What will your life be ten years from today?

I don't know.

But if you stay a virgin and keep your dignity and self-esteem, you will be proud you did.
