I wouldn't stress about this. You mentioned that before you guys stopped talking, you did everything together. Maybe the EVERYTHING scared him. He might indeed love you and want to continue seeing you, but for now, he just needs his space. Maybe he needs some time to just think about where his head is at and all the work has got him stressed and confused. You need to let him do this no matter how much you might be hurt. Maybe the seriousness scared him. On the other hand, this might just be an immature way for him to seperate with you and keep you hanging on. You shouldn't feel confused. It's been 1.5 weeks, so you have given him some time to think about everything. And the whole "repair his spotty relationship" with his mom, he could easily do that when he's with you. It seems to me he's just making up excuses or hiding the truth. You didn't scare him away, he just doesn't know where his head is at.
