Crush, crush back, what's the deal?

So, I have this friend James that I really like. He's sweet, kind, talented, and I think pretty cute.

We've been friends for as long as I can remember. He's 16 and I'm 14.

Recently we were talking on IM and we were playing this game called true or false. I said "you like me." and he said "true". Then he said how he doesn't want it to ruin our friendship, that's when I told him that I like him too.

I suggested that we see a movie or something and he said no. We're both not seeing anyone, and we're best friends.

The next day he asks me if we could be just friends. I was hurt when he asked that but I said "sure". But I don't understand what's going on. I'm really confused.

I mean, one day he says he likes me, and the next he asks if we could be "just friends". I like him a lot and it's true feeling.

James and me are perfect for each other like the best friends in the movies where they always end up together in the end. We have a lot of common intrests and we went to the same school for 7 years.

One friend of mine says he's confused, but that friend doesn't know James. I want him to know that we're supposed to be together because I strongly feel it in my heart, but I can't.

It's not like next time we see each other that I'm gonna wrap my arms around his neck, plant one on him, and say "James. Can't you see we're supposed to be together?"

I mean I hug him and tell him everything but this dillema. Please help me! I'm so confused.
