HE LEFT ME BROKEN HEARTED

Here is a poem I wrote about a boy I only knew for a month, and he left me for his old girlfriend and I haven't quite gotten over it yet.

HE LEFT ME BROKEN HEARTED

It has been awhile since anyone of consequence
has spent time with me
and so it seems
it was okay to be alone
until now…

I met a boy who was so intriguing and beguiling
That I almost heard my heart crack open
with the longing for him to stay…

His work took him outside the state
And although our meeting was brief
I have found that when he left,
He also left me changed…

We would call and text each other
Whenever we could get a signal
We shared secrets only lovers share
and he made promises I thought he’d keep…

Now I’m finding that this bed
That for so long was acceptable
For this solitary girl
Is not as comforting as it used to be…

Emptiness has crept under the covers with me
And I’m not sure
If it is going to leave me anytime soon…

From the sweetness of this chance encounter
Has come the strangest sorrow
For the first time that I can remember
I feel so lonely
And
It’s a very
scary place
to be…
