I have a friend I love. Should I tell him I love him or not?

I have been close friends with this amazing guy for about four years having been friends with him for even longer.
About a year ago I came to realise that he really is someone I care for... more than a close friend.
At first, I didn't want to act on it, because I was sure it was just a crush and I did not want to possibly ruin our friendship over something so fleeting.
Unfortunately, as time passed, I realised that it wasn't just going to pass; I wasn't even interested when other guys approached me. Still, the whole not-wanting-to-screw-up-the-friendship cliche was still nagging me.
As sad as it makes me to say this but, what made up my mind was listening to Nicklebacks new song 'If Today Was Your Last Day' on the way home one day. I finally really listened to the words and I had an epiphany.
I would really regret not trying.
So now, all I ask from the multitudes of speed typists and self titled relationship guros is eiter a 'yay' or 'nay' to my decision. And a prefered way of approaching the subject would be nice too.
Thank you so much if you have read this, thought about a reply and then did me the utmost honor of then typing it in and clicking 'submit'.
