A lonely wife is easy prey to the antics of flirting men. She's lonely and in need of attention. A man comes along and shows her kindness. Guess what?

She falls for him without much persuading.

Why?

Simply put, a lonely wife is dying to be held, to feel the warmth of a man, to be listened to, to be caressed, and to feel love. The desire for intimacy, sexual and otherwise, is an essential part of human nature. Whether we admit it or not, we all desire to be loved, to be fondled, and to be given attention.

A lonely wife desires that too.

Unfortunately, her husband is somewhere far away pursuing a career, his education, or just searching for greener pastures.

The husband of a lonely wife does not even have to be far away in some distant city to be far away from his wife. Some men live in the same house with their wives but never get to spend quality time with them.

This type of husbands leave home early in the morning to go to work and return late at night. Some work late while others just love hanging out with friends or at a drinking spot after work.

Bottom line.

But all she gets are phone calls and promises of a better tomorrow.

At the start this may not be a real issue. She may have a job that occupies her and the kids to cater for.

However, as days become weeks, weeks become months, and months become years, the stress of living life alone without someone to share the day's woes and joys with may become a subtle burden.

This subtle burden, if unchecked, eventually grows into a huge burden . . . loneliness.

No one understands the burden of loneliness more than a lonely wife.

A single woman is unattached to any particular man. She can date freely. She can be with any man she chooses. Few people will raise eyebrows.

You may not realize this. But . . .

A lonely wife is an accident waiting to happen.

Sooner or later, some man will notice her. He will tell her how attractive and stunning she is. She will blush and tell him to stop flattering her.

He will insist it's not flattery. He will tell her how wonderful she is. Then he will buy her presents. First occasionally. Then regularly.

He will ask her out for lunch break. Nothing special, just lunch break.

They will become friends. She will begin to trust him. She will tell him her problems. He will offer solutions. And then more solutions.

He will offer a helping hand and do all the things you, the husband, should have done but neglected to do. And she will fall in love again. But this time with this other 'nicer' guy.

Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating.

But try listening to a talk show where wives confess how they lost grip of themselves and cheated on their husbands. It's always the same story. And it's exactly the same pattern I mentioned above.

Don't kid yourself.

A lonely wife is indeed an accident waiting to happen. If you don't give your wife attention, you're taking a risk.

She will wait for you to come around. She will try to reach you in more ways than one. All the while she will fight back temptations to lose control.

But someday, in the heat of the emotions, her self-control may crack.

Listen, and listen good.

A lonely wife will not remain lonely forever. She will switch off and find love somewhere else.

That is why marriages break up. That is why women re-marry.

She will fall in love again . . . perhaps with a better man.

The thing to do?

Love your wife. Pay her attention. Do not allow your wife to become a lonely wife in the paws of a rampaging flirt. She deserves better.

If your wife wants to fall in love again, be the man.

Be there for her. Tantalize her. Surprise her. Adore her.
