Was he nice to you? Did he give you full attention or was he caught up with the earbuds?

Would you consider the date a success?

Many young people have turned earbuds into fashion. And so your man could easily have worn this without consideration for how you would feel about it.

That is why his attitude and actions during the date are of greater significance.
