Real life Romeo and Juliet

I am interested in this guy. The guy seems really nice, and he is really handsome. Well, my problem is that my older brother doesn't like him. They once went to school together, so he has known the guy longer than I have.

They once were friends and then they went their separate ways. While going therir separate ways they both joined two totally different groups of friends.

Well, my brother's group and the guy's group doesn't get along. I doubt if they could be civil in the same room for more than 30mins. My brother told me that I could not show my interest for the guy, because of his certain group of friends. But I am neutral in the whole situation, I don't claim a title from either group.

This being the case I don't see why I shouldn't be able to show interest. I see the guy from time, and he knows that I am interested in him. I think that he is a little reluctant to show interests because of who my brother is. So what should I do?

I mean I am too old to let my brother interfere with my life, but I don't want to cause any trouble between the two groups.
