Penny is a woman who have been married to her husband for 26 years. Some months back she contemplated leaving her husband because, according to her, "he was sexually boring".

I was very pleased! I started reading your letter only to realize it was an excerpt from my own email to you from a few months ago!

I thought you might like an update on things here? Your return letter to me had a great impact. I was thankful for your straight forward answer, when I told you I was thinking about leaving my husband after 26 years.

Since then things are going REALLY well for me and my husband. I will not leave the relationship.

I finally realized I could not change him...yet I know I still love and care for him. So I decided to change me...and guess what? He has changed because of the change in me.

To say it caused a big change in him is an understatement!

I started focusing more on what was important to me and stopped blaming him for how I felt. Little by little I started noticing I was getting happier.

I think because I was a happier person at home, in turn he has become more loving.

Every once in awhile he will still get angry for no apparent reason and I turn around and walk away, saying "You do not have to shout at me".

Many times he will say I am not shouting and try to deny it, and I say. "Well I will not talk to you until your tone is more loving".

It seems to work every single time. He will come into a room a few moments later and give me a kiss on the cheek and say "I am sorry dear, you caught me when I was preoccupied, and I was angry"... Now what was it that you wanted?

He admits it, and I did not say anything but rather walked away.

It seems he is more willing to listen then. So it is due to me not tolerating his negative behavior, and calmly walking out of the room, that has caused him to look at himself and see it for himself, rather than my constantly feeling angry & resentful over it, and blaming him and nagging about it.

So I just wanted you to know that by my action of pulling away from my husband, he listens more.

I hope this makes sense, because we all have to find a way that works and I have found that less control is the way to let love flourish.
