Why Would She Make This Choice?

Over the years that we've known each other, my really good friend and i fell in love with one another...deeply.

She has told me and i have told her. She had been with another guy for 5 years or so. The guy treats her like crap - he's cheated on her, he purposely says things to hurt her, and she has told me, on more than one occasion, that she can't stand to be in the same room with him.

She knows me better than anyone and knows that i would never treat her that way.

I have told her how much i want to be with her, and she the same but for some reason she has chosen to stay with him.

I am heartbroken. I can't understand why she would make this choice, why she would choose someone who treats her that way over me, an incredibly nice, faithful guy.

We love each other very much. So my question is this: Why would she make this choice?
